Color Photos of World War II
via CNN
1 / 14 -A new book by Imperial War Museums (IWM) offers rare color photographs from WWII, many published for the first time in 70 years. They are in their original condition, not retouched nor colorized. Pictured in this one is a 'spotter' at a 3.7-inch anti-aircraft gun site, in December 1942. "This was one of the few places where women could actually serve on the front line," said author Ian Carter. "They would spot targets, operate the range finder and other systems, everything but firing the guns. The clarity of the image is stunning -- the quality of the colors shows how good the film was for its time."© IWM
